Making a Mark: Cancer and hematologist patients' artwork on display

This summer, as travelers pass through both of Houston’s airports and families enjoy the fun activities at the Children’s Museum of Houston, they will have the chance to check out the work of some inspiring young artists.

The art was created by patients with cancer and blood disorders at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers, a joint program of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital.

The art exhibit, Making a Mark, has been on display throughout the year and its final stops can be enjoyed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport – Terminal A, William P. Hobby Airport and the Children’s Museum of Houston through Aug. 18.

Making a Mark is an annual exhibit presented by Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers and the Periwinkle Foundation that enables children with cancer and their siblings to express themselves creatively.

Viewers are encouraged to send a “Postcard From the Road” to the individual artists. They can share their reactions to the art and offer support and well wishes, and the Periwinkle Foundation gets each message to the artists.

The Periwinkle Foundation has collaborated with the Arts in Medicine Program at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers since 2001 to bring fun and unique opportunities for self-expression, empowerment and development of coping skills to patients and their families with the help of professional artists and writers.
