Google Glass Makes Surgery History

In today’s world, in which “Google” has become a verb in addition to a noun, it sometimes seems like anything is possible with scientific and technological advances. This week, a Maine doctor made headlines because of his recent surgery, which involved Google Glass.

Citizens of Science

Dr. William Brinkley, BCM graduate school dean emeritus, published a blog post for The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas, on the value of scientific education.

He writes: “We know that the future of our leadership in medicine, science, and engineering depends on recruiting the world’s most talented students and providing them state-of-the-art education and training at the very cutting edge of our respective disciplines.”

Men’s Health Month

Hepatitis C screening recommendations

Were you born between 1945-1965? BCM doctors are supporting the latest recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding hepatitis C screenings, which state that those born in this time period should go through a one-time screening for hepatitis C. The goal of these recommendations are to reduce the number of those at risk for progression to cirrhosis liver failure, liver cancer, and to reduce the number of individuals on the waiting list for a liver transplant.

Read a BCM news release about these recommendations.
