Throwback Thursday: No one flash their pearly whites

Thanks for joining us for another Throwback Thursday. The year is 1911 and yearbook photos are serious business.

In their class photo, the 20 members of the freshman class that entered what was then known as Baylor University College of Medicine in 1910-1911 academic year, try their hardest not to smile for the camera.

Did you know that before Baylor College of Medicine moved to the Texas Medical Center in Houston, they called Dallas home? While Baylor University was in Waco, Baylor University College of Medicine was in Dallas. The annual Round Up yearbook, which chronicles the lives of the Waco students, called on members of the medical school to produce a section for the “professional schools.”

Each school, including the medical school, pharmacy school, and dental school, placed photos of each member of their classes and often poked fun of their classmates in riddles and parody advertisements.

One of the most striking things about these annual publications is the intricate borders, and oftentimes embossed detail work on each page, which unfortunately you can’t see in our photos.
