Throwback Thursday: Match Days past

Today we’re taking a break from our early past in Dallas to share photos from our more recent past in anticipation of Match Day. Baylor College of Medicine students, faculty and staff may even recognize some of these faces.

Do you know this woman?

Before she was in BCM's Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Julie Boom was an excited fourth-year medical student posing in front of the Match Day board in 1992. Photo courtesy Julie Boom.

It’s BCM’s own Dr. Julie Boom from pediatrics on Match Day 1992.  Boom found out she matched in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School-Children’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.

She poses with her husband Marc Boom, far left, Angela Yen and Tom Nguyen.

Flash forward just a pinch to 1996, where the senior class president ripped open the bulletin board to signal it was time for students to find out where they matched.

And from just eight years ago, the class of 2005 poses for a group portrait in front of the Alkek Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences building.

We’re excited for the opportunity to snap photos of our next group of Match Day students tomorrow and record the special day for future generations to see.

Can you imagine what the technology and fashion will be like in 20 years, or the jokes about our “funny” clothes, preference for splatter paint wrapping paper or outrageously large cameras?

A special thanks to Dr. Boom for sharing her photographs and memories of Match Day, as well as the wonderful ladies at the BCM Archives who help us share these photos with you each week.
